We are not big fans of Ivy league universities due to cost – We Love Them But Can’t Afford Them! The key is we want you to save as much money without racking up a huge debt after earning your degree so you actually get to enjoy your living status after graduation.

But Brown University has a “Brown Promise” to eliminate loans from Undergraduate degree seekers – which is simple music to my ears or any parent. I wish I had that promise in my time.

So this puts Brown in my Ivy League budget list. So here are some facts about Brown as stated on their website and some added pits.

About Brown

Located in historic Providence, Rhode Island and founded in 1764, Brown University is the seventh-oldest college in the United States. Brown is an independent, coeducational Ivy League institution comprising undergraduate and graduate programs, plus the Alpert Medical SchoolSchool of Public HealthSchool of Engineering, and the School of Professional Studies.

With its talented and motivated student body and accomplished faculty, Brown is a leading research university that maintains a particular commitment to exceptional undergraduate instruction.

Brown’s vibrant, diverse community consists of about 6,200 undergraduates, 2,000 graduate students, 490 medical school students, more than 5,000 summer, visiting, and online students, and over 700 faculty members. Brown students come from all 50 states and more than 115 countries.

Undergraduates pursue bachelor’s degrees in more than 70 concentrations, ranging from Egyptology to cognitive neuroscience. Anything’s possible at Brown—the university’s commitment to undergraduate freedom means students must take responsibility as architects of their courses of study.

Brown University has 51 doctoral programs and 28 master’s programs. The broad scope of options vary from interdisciplinary opportunities in molecular pharmacology and physiology to a master’s program in acting and directing through the Brown/Trinity Repertory Consortium.

Additional programs include the Undergraduate Summer Session and Pre-College Programs for high school students — on campus, online, and abroad.

Brown is frequently recognized for its global reach, many cultural events, numerous campus groups and activities, active community service programs, highly competitive athletics, and beautiful facilities located in a richly historic urban setting.

Brown also offers Pre-College programs for grade 6-12 – basically Secondary School level which can be done online or around the world. For international students – the online option fees are decent. However, if you do have the funds and will like to see how campus life will pan out – then have about $12,000 for 2 courses. Most of the Pre-College programs run during the Summer.
Deadline for Summer 2018 is Dec 1st, 2017. Something to look up too.
School Application is done via “The Common Application”   for Undergraduate Admissions
Graduate Admission is open for the year 2018 but is done via the schools’ website

Test Requirements

  • Applicants can satisfy our testing requirement in one of two ways: (1) Either the SAT with Essay, or (2) the ACT with Writing. We recommend, but do not require, the submission of two SAT Subject Tests of your choice. If you are applying to the Program in Liberal Medical Education, we strongly recommend one subject test in either Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
  • Official test results must be sent directly to Brown from either the College Board, which administers the SAT, or from the American College Testing Program, which administers the ACT.
  • To have scores sent to Brown, you will need to provide our institutional code numbers:
    • For the SAT, Brown’s code number is 3094
    • For the ACT, Brown’s code number is 3800
  • You are welcome to take advantage of the College Board’s Score Choice option, but this may delay your scores being received by Brown—a delay may mean we will not read your application until we receive a full set of official test scores.
  • Please note: we encourage students to have at least one set of scores in our office by the appropriate application deadline.
  • Brown University Graduate School: 3094
Brown University School of Public Health: 7765
