How do I start on Social Work?
Do you have an orphanage, elderly people home, church, bank, hospital around your home? Walk in and talk to the human resource manager or director of administration. Have a good letter ready offering your service at no cost to the establishment and explain what you hope to learn or gain from the experience. In return, as for a an acknowledgment letter for your service in their establishment.
It is best to start this at least a year before you are set to head for college/university. However, it is never too late if you are able to establish a relationship and really help within your community. If you already volunteer in your church or social establishments around you – remember to ask for a recommendation letter stating how long you have served the establishment.

Social Work Location!!!
It is best to volunteer in an establishment very close to your desired passion or intended major. However, it is not a necessity. The important aspect is that the admission officer will see your true passion shine in your application either via your essay, extracurricular activities or your volunteer work.
For example, If I want to gain admission into a medical school or any healthcare inclined field – you will want to volunteer at a hospital or even offer to shadow a doctor or nurse for a week. That added letter will play a role in selling yourself and passion for the field.
In addition, to enhancing your resume/CV the experience will give you the leverage in delivering a great essay.
Don’t let fear stop you from ticking this box. As most establishments are happy to see young people willing to work or learn.
Ask the worst possible scenario is a Big “No” but you know you tried.
Fear limits You – It doesn’t Move you forward – so kick fear to the curb.
